The 3 BEST hair restoration techniques in Italy
Various methods of hair transplantation are available throughout Italy, to meet the growing demand for surgical hair loss treatments.
And of course, patients prefer the least invasive methods.
As a result, the FUE technique has become the most popular in recent years.
In addition to FUE, doctors may recommend the DHI or FUT technique depending on your individual needs.
3 steps to have a hair transplant in Italy
- Consultation: Your hair transplant in Italy will always start with a non-binding consultation where you can talk to the surgeon about your concerns and ask any questions you may have.
- Treatment: You will arrive at the clinic in the morning, where your hair will be cut short and you will also receive some medications before the actual hair transplant begins.
- Aftercare: After the surgery you will need to follow strict guidelines for aftercare, refraining from activities such as strenuous exercise, sunlight, and anything that may pose a threat to your recipient and donor site.
How is hair restoration performed in Italy?
On the day of your hair transplant, you must arrive at the clinic around 8:00 am.
First, the team prepares you for the procedure: you’ll be given some medications and the team will cut your hair.
After consulting with the surgeon, the procedure begins.
- The doctor disinfects the scalp and administers injections of lidocaine.
- Once the donor area is numb, the surgeon extracts the hair follicles. Meanwhile, the assistants clean and prepare these follicles for implantation.
- There is usually a short lunch break in between the extraction and implantation steps of the procedure.
- The second part of the surgery is the implantation. Again, the recipient area is disinfected and numbed.
- Then the surgeon opens canals and implants the follicles
The operation lasts about 6-8 hours overall.
At the end of the operation, the surgeon will give you all the post-operative instructions and medicines you need to take during the recovery period.
Once the team has made sure you are feeling well, you can go home.
Post-operative care
You must follow a strict post-operative care regimen for a few weeks after your hair transplant in Italy.
Your surgeon will likely instruct you to:
- Use a sterile saline spray
- Take antibiotics
- Avoid hats and head scarves
Since you should expect redness, scabs and slight swelling around the forehead, a few days off from work are also recommended.
While your small wounds will heal quickly in about 10-14 days, your complete recovery will take longer.
To make sure your scalp heals well, you need to treat it gently and avoid irritation.
Therefore, when you start washing your hair regularly again, it’s best to use gentle, natural products.
Also, avoid exercising, tanning, and swimming for at least 3-4 weeks.
About 1 month after the surgery, the implanted hairs fall out.
While this can be concerning, it is a perfectly normal part of the hair transplant timeline.
Regrowth will begin slowly 3-4 months later and you will observe a gradual increase in the density of your hair.
This will continue up to about 12 to 15 months when you can enjoy your final results.
